BMA Straight PCB Mount Plug

Winchester’s KINGS® brand BMA blind mate connectors are designed for use in blind mate applications where multiple RF connectors need to be mated simultaneously. Typical applications include wireless base station infrastructure equipment, microwave subsystems, test and measurement, and military radar and satellite communication equipment. The blind mate capability is accomplished by the slide-on, non-locking BMA interface – designed to allow a maximum of .020″ radial and .060″ axial misalignment. Winchester’s BMA interface also includes a unique first-make-last-break ground contact, which allows modular components to be plugged and unplugged or “hot swapped” in and out of a live system.

  • Ganged RF for High Frequency

    A customer approached Winchester with an application requiring three sets of three RF edge launch printed circuit board connectors, mating horizontally to the board with cabled connectors in the space of  0.875” x 0.375”. The application had to meet several requirements, including 1) a compact footprint for each connector, 2) ruggedized due to extreme operating conditions, 3) easily serviceable in the field, and 4) perform up to 20 GHz with 40 dB of RF isolation between each RF line. Further, a heavily tooled, highly custom design was undesirable due to lead time and the relatively low volume of the program.

  • Triple Shielded Cable Solution

    A customer approached Winchester Interconnect looking to improve the performance of its RF cables. The cables were used in automated test equipment where electromagnetic interference (“EMI”) was high. In addition, its assembly technicians complained that routing standard, double- shielded RF cable through its test system was difficult and would lead to delays in production.

  • Low Insertion Loss Semi-rigid SMP Cable Assembly

    Winchester was asked to evaluate cable assemblies that failed to consistently meet the customer’s expected performance levels. The customer manufactured the assemblies in-house using purchased MIL Spec SMP Right-Angle solder type cable connectors with a standard bifurcated center contact. The customer selected 0.047 semi-rigid cable with 69.5 VoP solid PTFE dielectric. Coupling the connector and cable with the quality assembly work from experienced operators, the customer should have been able to meet the required performance criteria. However, despite its best efforts the customer could not reliably pass a 0.70 dB Insertion Loss and 1.35:1 VSWR @ 20 GHz requirement. This inconsistency was causing critical disruptions in manufacturing.
